The caveat here is compulsory in full: the money comes back because the wallet sends it back, not the network. A badly written service may fail to say where the change is to go, and then the whole reserve burns up — among the transfers taken apart there are such cases, and they come out dozens of times dearer than an ordinary one. There is also a mode where the fee is taken in USDT itself — it works only on wallets of version W5 and only for a few tokens.
What happens if you forget the comment
There is a comment field in the wallet, and it is available only for tokens of the TON network. If the platform's address needs a comment and you sent without one, the transfer will go through all the same: the contract did its job, and in the explorer there is a successful transaction. The money will land in the platform's wallet, but there will be nothing to match it to your account by. The transfer cannot be cancelled, nothing comes back on its own, and a return is a paid manual service from support rather than a right; if after the fee is taken off the sum is below the withdrawal minimum, a return is not possible at all.
The rule is simple: copy the address and the comment field exactly from the top-up screen you were shown at the moment of the transfer. There is a field — fill it in; there is no field — do not invent one.
